New Skater/Fresh Meat Training for Fall 2014

Have you ever wanted to give full-contact Roller Derby a try? Have you dreamed about racing around the flat-track and squeezing through a pack of players, or knocking someone bigger than you to the ground?  Well here’s your chance!

Come and learn about the awesome Roller Derby Skating and Skills training we offer at RVRG by attending our Fresh Meat Information Session on Tuesday September 2nd at 6:45pm at Neon Skates – 285 St Patrick St. in the Byward Market. You’ll learn about the sport, about our coaching staff and about our league and there is no obligation to sign-up for the fall session. Register for this event by emailing us at freshmeat@rideauvalleyrollergirls.com.

RVRG’s Fall 2014 session of training for new and novice roller skaters (aka Fresh Meat) is set to begin in mid-September. The program is designed to build new and novice players, as well as, potential new referees up to a  level where they can safely join in at our regular league practices.

Our Fresh Meat practices for Fall 2014 will be held on Monday nights from 6-9pm in Hintonburg, however there may be additional practices and free skate time. The cost of this program is $200 to be payed in 2 installments.

  • No experience on quad roller skates necessary
  •  We will train you to skate, stop, hit and whip safely
  •  Accepting women and men 18+
  •  Must be willing to work hard & fall hard

This is a safe and welcoming space to develop your derby skills before mixing it up with the hard hitters. Occasionally new or novice skaters do so well in the program that they are fast-tracked to joining full league practices when they are able to pass the WFTDA minimum skill requirements.

We offer:

  • Training in a friendly and encouraging environment
  • An opportunity to learn and play competitive level Roller Derby
  • Expert coaching by members of Team Ontario and Team Canada

So, remember to register for this event by emailing us at freshmeat@rideauvalleyrollergirls.com and we’ll see you at Ottawa’s only dedicated Roller Skating/Derby Store: Neon Skates  –  285 St Patrick St. (between Cumberland and Dalhousie) on Tuesday September 2nd at 6:45pm!

There is also a Facebook event for easy sharing:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1476190102628793

August is upon us and the home season has drawn to a close. We are incredibly proud of our newest home team, Prime Sinisters, who won the Home Team Championship against Riot Squad, 137-155! All three home teams fought hard throughout the season and will be honing their skills for next year, so watch out!

On the travel team front, here’s what coming up:

Maple Stir-Up – August 9, Hamilton, ON
The Vixens are looking forward to playing some great derby at Maple Stir-Up in Hamilton on August 9th, which will give them a chance to play some teams they haven’t encountered yet.

Home Team Championship

By Wreck Therapy

This SATURDAY the Prime Sinisters and Riot Squad will face off in the Home Team Championship Finals. This is the game we’ve all been waiting for. We’ve seen the three home teams fight it out on the track in all the previous games, we’ve laughed, cheered and (some of us) shed a tear or two. But it all comes down to this final game. Who will be victorious and take home the trophy? We will finally see!

Before the culmination of a season’s worth of sweat for two of the home teams, you can catch RVRG’s internationally ranked All-star team, the Vixens, take on the Green Mountain Grade A Fancy from Essex Junction, Vermont. These ladies have been training more than ever and are ready to bring the hard-hitting action!

So be sure to come out and support all your favourite teams on Saturday, July 19 at Mlacak arena (2500 Campeau Drive). Doors open at 5pm!
