Junior Roller Derby

Junior

Ottawa Junior Roller Derby (OJRD) is a non-profit league aimed at providing boys & girls with a fun and safe environment to play flat-track roller derby.

Who can join? Boys and Girls aged 9-18 who want to learn how to play roller derby. Players will be grouped by skill and age. No skating experience necessary.

What’s it all about? Details are provided in the Information Package.

When can I register my child? Registration for the next session is always just around the corner. Just contact us with your questions via e-mail:  Ottawa.Junior.Roller.Derby@gmail.com

Safety is a top priority!

Our OJRD coaches start by covering basic skating skills; form, stops, starts, and safe falls. Skaters then start learning to skate in partnerships and packs and eventually work their way up to light contact (positional blocking, lean-outs, hitting form). At the end of the session all skaters will participate in a non-contact scrimmage. Skaters will be grouped by skill level and then age, where appropriate. The Junior Roller Derby Skills Assessment will be used as a guideline of progress.

Children and teens play a modified and low-contact version of modern flat-track roller derby. This is a safe version of the gameplay using the regulations established by the the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA).
