Junior Roller Derby
Ottawa Junior Roller Derby (OJRD) is a non-profit league aimed at providing boys & girls with a fun and safe environment to play flat-track roller derby.
WINTER-SPRING 2019 REGISTRATION IS OPEN:
The winter-spring 2019 session of Ottawa Junior Roller Derby is now open for registration. The practices will take place on Saturdays from 1-3pm from January 12th to June 15th, 2019. (Details here: https://ottawavalleyrollerderby.com/2019/01/09/junior-winter-2019-session/)
OJRD Winter-Spring 2019 Registration Form:
Who can join? Boys and Girls aged 9-17 who want to learn how to play roller derby. Players will be grouped by skill and age. No skating experience necessary.
Safety is a top priority!
Our OJRD coaches start by covering basic skating skills; form, stops, starts, and safe falls. Skaters then start learning to skate in partnerships and packs and eventually work their way up to light contact (positional blocking, lean-outs, hitting form). At the end of the session all skaters will participate in a non-contact scrimmage. Skaters will be grouped by skill level and then age, where appropriate. The Junior Roller Derby Skills Assessment will be used as a guideline of progress.
Children and teens play a modified and low-contact version of modern flat-track roller derby. This is a safe version of the gameplay using the regulations established by the the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA).
