We miss you…
Hello friends and fam,
We thought it was time to release some information on our league operations and where we stand in regards to return to play.
As you’re likely aware, OVRD is not up and running at the moment. Roller Derby is still on pause for the time being and there are very good reasons for that.
Ottawa Valley Roller Derby is a WFTDA (
Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) affiliate league.
We hold a membership with the WFTDA and are recognized as a WFTDA-endorsed league.
So what does that mean and how does that relate to return to play?
It essentially means our return to play has to be very methodical, compliant and most importantly: SAFE
The
Return to Play Guidelines, that are provided by the WFTDA, are broken down into Tiers – there are 7 tiers to go through and prerequisites to meet specific (covid-related) metrics in order for our league to even be considered “at baseline” (the step just before Tier 1) Because we are a WFTDA league, we are bound by these tiered guidelines.
Return to play will be gradual for OVRD, but we’ve got a taskforce monitoring the daily case counts, doing the maths and getting the proper data so we can determine where we stand and if we meet baseline conditions. The landscape is ever evolving, creating layers of complications when it comes to discussing league operations.
You may not see us on social media, but we are here! Working hard in the background to make sure there is a strong derby revival when we can all get together again, be in each other’s space and highfive and hug.
If you have any questions about roller derby, are interested in skating or want to get more information on our league, please feel free to email
Board@OttawaValleyRollerDerby.com – we are still monitoring emails daily and we’d love to hear from you.
Who’s on the track? (in normal times)
The OVRD All-Stars represent our league at the WFTDA charter level.
A-team hopefuls hone their skills on the impressive B-Team:
Byward B.
The men get to have their fun as well on:
Slaughter Squad (Men’s Roller Derby Association Team) and
The Party Line: our All-Gender Regional Team.
