Ottawa Junior Roller Derby (OJRD) is now accepting new skaters for their Fall 2019 – Spring 2020 session. OJRD is a non-profit league aimed at providing kids and teens with a fun and safe environment to play flat-track roller derby. Players are grouped by skill and age. Juniors play a modified and low-contact version of modern flat-track roller derby. No skating experience necessary. OJRD is open to skaters aged 9-17 of any level of skating experience and any gender.
Dates: The Fall 2019 – Spring 2020 session will run on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm, starting September 21, 2019 until June 2020.
Location: From September till April: practices will be held at the Ottawa Tech Adult High School (440 Albert Street at Bay) in the Mustang Gym (gym entrance is off of Slater Street)
From May 2020 till June 2020: practices will be held at the Rideau Curling Club – 715 Cooper Street.
Price: $275 for the season

We are excited to announce that we are recruiting new skaters for our next session of Roller Derby 101.
About the Fall Session of Roller Derby 101
Date and Time: The fall 2019 session begins Tuesday, September 17th and ends Tuesday, October 29th.
It will be running twice a week:
- Tuesdays from 8:00pm-10:00pm
- Saturdays from 11:00am-1:00pm
*There may be some exception dates and/or last minute changes to the schedule – please watch out for weekly e-mails from the RD101 Coaches to keep fully updated on the schedule.
Location: Ottawa Tech Adult High School (440 Albert St. at Bay) in the Mustang Gym (gym entrance is on Slater St.)
Price: The cost of the session is $250, which includes the registration fee ($220) and mandatory skating insurance ($30).
About OVRD’s RD 101 program:
We offer a safe and welcoming space for you to develop your roller derby skills. Prior skating knowledge, of any kind, is an asset but definitely not a requirement. Open to adults 18 + (juniors are taught at a different program) and to all genders and gender expressions.
This training program is designed to teach roller skating to new and novice adult skaters.
- Learn to skate, stop, fall, and hit safely
- Learn the rules and gameplay of roller derby
- Meet new friends, have fun, and work hard
You will need quad roller skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, a helmet, and a mouth guard – Check Out Neon Skates (100-379 Danforth Ave. http://www.neonskates.ca) for equipment.
If you don’t have the gear you’ll need to participate in the program, email us ASAP, as we may have gear for you to borrow temporarily.

Ottawa Valley Roller Derby presents our last full-contact flat-track roller derby game of 2019. It’s the culmination of the season long House League Tournament and it’s all going down at Bernard Grandmaître Arena (309 McArthur Ave.) on Saturday, August 17th. The House League Championship contenders are: Centre Block and West Block. The doors and the beer garden will open at 5:30pm. The game kicks off at 6pm with two 30 minute periods.
Tickets $10 – available at the door (Kids 10 and under get in free. Limit 2 kids per adult, please)
This is a family-friendly, licensed event. Bring your camping chairs and get cozy in the Beer Garden and don’t forget your I.D.
