Learn to Roller Derby with RVRG

The Rideau Valley Roller Girls will be running our next introductory roller derby program (aka our Fresh Meat program) starting in mid-August. The 4 month, once a week program is designed to teach roller skating and the basics of roller derby to complete newbies. We offer a safe and welcoming space for you to develop your skating and roller derby skills before joining in our regular league practices. You are welcome to join us to learn how to roller skate with no intention of playing or refereeing roller derby. All are welcome!

RVRG Fresh Meat Training will be held at Carleton University’s Norm Fenn Gym on the following days:
Mondays in August from 6-9pm and Sundays in September, October & November from 9:30am -12:30pm

Occasionally new or novice skaters who are interested in playing roller derby do so well in the fresh meat program that they are fast-tracked to joining league practices as soon as they are able to pass the minimum skill requirements. We require skaters to have participated at 50% of the fresh meat practices before they are allowed to attempt the minimum skills assessment.

RVRG has 3 home teams with a lot of open spots on our rosters. Graduates of the RVRG Fresh Meat program, who wish to join the league, will be recruited to home teams and given the chance to try out for our 2 all-star teams.

• No experience on quad roller skates is necessary
• We will train you to skate, stop, hit and fall safely
• We are accepting adults 18 and over, all genders
• Must be willing to work hard and fall often
• Come meet new people & have FUN!

The cost is $225 ($125 due at the first practice)
You’ll also need Roller Derby specific insurance which is an additional $30

About the Teams:

Riot Squad
Riot Squad had a late start in the season, May 16th was their first game of 2015 and they showed that they were ready to play. Narrowly defeated by Slaughter Daughter, Riot Squad had been losing in the first half but came out and dominated the 2nd period. Other teams should take notice. Coached by Sister Disaster, the Riot Squad are indeed ready to RIOT.

Slaughter Daughters
The Slaughter Daughters are RVRG’s founding team and were consistently ranked number one in 2012 and 2013 on the Canadian Roller Derby Ranking for home teams. With the reshuffle of the league’s home team talent in 2014, SD kept a killer roster of fast jammers and impressive blockers. Riot squad had better watch their backs because SD is hungry for the Championship this year.
