It’s a new season and the Sirens, RVRG’s B Travel team, has a new coach. I met with Hamish McHavoc to welcome him to the league and to learn more about his background.
Hamish, who has been skating with Toronto Men’s Derby, is also one of the Women’s Team Ontario coaches.
Wreck: It’s great to have you on board. Where did you coach prior to this?
Hamish: I’ve been coaching Peterborough and Belleville Roller Derby, and I coached some other leagues before that. I’ve been coaching for four years in derby. I also have some experience coaching cycling and wrestling prior to my derby career.
Wreck: What are you most looking forward to this season?
Hamish: Up until now I’ve been coaching startup teams and so a lot of what I focus on is basic skills. This is important even for teams that are advanced; fundamentals are ultra important. Coming into a league like RVRG that’s more established and competitive gives me an opportunity to apply some of the more interesting drills and strategies I’ve been developing.
With Hamish leading the Sirens into their fourth season, it looks like the team will be a force to be reckoned with.
Coming out of a 384 – 61 victory over Capital City Derby Dolls’ Dollinquents, Sirens will next face off against Durham Region Roller Derby’s Atom Smashers in Ajax, ON.
Following this, don’t miss Rideau Valley Roller Girls All-Stars Double Header against the Tampa Bay All Stars at the St-Laurent Complex – 525 Cote St.

About the Teams:
Game #1
Game #2
They might be RVRG’s newest team, but these skaters know their way around a track. The Prime Sinisters are ready to do what it takes to come out on top. In 2014, PS won the first ever RVRG Home Team Championship title. Prime Sinisters are made up of some of the league’s finest old and new talent, this team is set to dominate once again. PS, PS, PS, YES!
The Slaughter Daughters are out for blood. The Daughters were ranked number one in 2012 and 2013 on the Canadian Roller Derby Ranking for home teams and they’re not ready to give that up. With their killer roster and coaching staff, the other RVRG home teams better watch their backs. Kill, Kill, Hate, Hate, Murder, Murder, Mutilate. not literally 😉
