Game Summary – Special Event – March 19th

Derby fans old and new, from near (Ottawa) and far (Montreal), gathered in Rockland last weekend for a fundraiser bout between two of the top teams in the country.

Hosted by the Rideau Valley Roller Girls and with proceeds going towards the Vixens travel fund, the special event pitted the Rideau Valley Vixens against Montreal’s New Skids on the Block.

Proving why they are the top rated team in Canada, the Skids dominated much of the play and led the game at half 149 to 17 – a score that did not reflect both teams’ pack work on the track or the high intensity of the match up.

Despite a strong showing, the Vixens were unable to close the gap in the second half. Seemingly hellbent on running up the score, the fancy-footed Skids danced their way to lead status and called off jams before Vixens could get many points on the board.

While a fundraiser, the game was also a WFTDA sanctioned bout with total points earned feeding into the official rankings.

The game ended with a win for the Skids with a final score of 304 to 40. Skids MVPs were Falcon Punch (jammer) and Surgical Strike (blocker). Vixens MVP were Austin (jammer) and Sister Disaster (blocker).
